The Headbangers are one of the most interesting tag teams in WWE history. They first appeared on WWE programming in 1996 and even became the WWF Tag Team Champions.
Although they were quite popular with the fans, they were never treated as a top tag team and only was able to capture the Tag Titles once during their career. Following the release from the WWE, they continued to work on the independent circuit.
However, earlier this year, the Headbangers had signed a nostalgia deal with WWE and are still under contract with the promotion despite making appearances for the NWA. They have now revealed some of the terms of their WWE deal.
During an interview with Steve Fall of WrestlingNewsCo., Mosh & Thrasher disclosed that they are free to take independent bookings as long as there is no merchandise being produced with their likeness.
“It’s basically merchandise. Action figures, we’ll be on the video games, hopefully t-shirts,” Mosh began. “We signed in March and they said it could take 10 to 12 months with production and stuff. I think once that starts, maybe it’ll bring us back on TV because there’s appearances rolled into that whole contract we signed. Now when doing other stuff, we can do whatever we want, as long as there’s no merchandise made of us and sold.
Mosh further stated that he even checked with WWE before his NWA appearance and he was given the green signal.
“When the NWA thing came up, and we were asked, I checked with the office first. I didn’t want to have a conflict of interest and get that contract killed off or be in trouble. They said, ‘No, you are free to do whatever you want as long as there’s no merchandise made.'”
It’s good to see The Headbangers still performing at independent shows despite being in a contract with WWE.
