The pro wrestling rumor mill is always churning, and you never know whose name will get caught up in it next. D-Von Dudley has been around long enough to realize that even he isn’t immune to rumors and innuendos about himself.
Appearing on the Duke LovesRasslin podcast, D-Von Dudley addressed a rumor being circulated about why he never joined AEW. The topic came up during the second half of the episode when the host pointed to an alleged behind-the-scenes effort to damage D-Von’s name. Some of this had to do with a story that he was sleeping backstage, which D-Von also addressed.
Someone from within AEW has allegedly been attempting to influence wrestling media with a false story. This was not lost on D-Von, as he listened to this warning from Duke.
“Somebody in AEW is trying to get the dirt sheets to print that Tony took a pass on you because you were sleeping backstage, and he was so disgusted that he wouldn’t hire you.”
D-Von responded directly and said the story is not true. After he made a point to say that it’s not true, D-Von pointed out the fact that he was waiting all day.
“Number one — that’s not the case. Number two — I was waiting all day just to have a meeting.”
The WWE Hall of Famer continued by sharing what happened during his visits to AEW. It appears that Tony Khan kept D-Von waiting for a while each time he went in for a meeting. This led to a lot of the misinformation as well.
“And then again — I get there at 12:00, and I didn’t wind up seeing Tony until 2:00 or 3:00 AM. On every occasion.”
D-Von’s comments are not his only comments about AEW. It’s anyone’s guess why AEW ultimately didn’t go with D-Von, but there are also plenty of fans that are glad the two sides couldn’t come together. After all, D-Von’s recent participation in NXT and TNA wouldn’t have been able to go down if he inked a deal with Tony Khan.
We will keep a close eye for any updates on this story. At this rate, it’s anyone’s guess what will come out about AEW first. We certainly know that D-Von Dudley seems to believe that there is a strong possibility that smear campaigns and other underhanded tactics may be at play.
