Shawn Michaels is a legend in the wrestling industry. He is currently the Senior Vice President of Talent Development for WWE and oversees “WWE NXT.” Recently, the brand put on the Stand & Deliver premium live event, with Michaels at the helm, and it featured Carmelo Hayes defeating Bron Breakker for the NXT Championship among other matches.
While speaking with BT Sport’s Ariel Helwani, Michaels shared that he has no plans of returning to WWE television anytime soon with his current backstage role.
“I’m not a big fan of being on TV. I love being behind the scenes. For Stand & Deliver, for this push, and for some of the stories, we felt like it worked. But I’d rather keep that few and far between if I can.”
As the former four-time world champion, Michaels stated that he did not enjoy trying to juggle his backstage duties on the headset with a live segment on “NXT.”
In the lead-up to Stand & Deliver, Michaels made a few appearances on television, including getting involved in the Grayson Waller/Johnny Gargano storyline and the Roxanne Perez injury angle. He appeared on the March 28 episode of “NXT,” where he allowed Perez to join the ladder match for the NXT Women’s Championship on Stand & Deliver.
It seems that Michaels prefers his current role behind the scenes in WWE and will likely continue in his role as Senior Vice President of Talent Development.
While he may make occasional on-screen appearances for special events, it appears that Michaels is content with staying out of the spotlight and focusing on his responsibilities backstage.
