Rey Fenix didn’t just make his debut on WWE SmackDown—he made a statement. But what happened after the cameras stopped rolling might be what everyone’s really talking about.
Following his electric match against Nathan Frazer on the April 4 episode of SmackDown at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois, Triple H took to Twitter with a message that turned heads. Posting a video of himself embracing Fenix backstage, Triple H wrote: “Just getting started @ReyFenixMx. #SmackDown @WWE.”
In the clip, you can clearly hear Triple H tell Fenix, “Just getting started,” as the two share a heartfelt moment after the match—an instant that clearly meant something to both men.
Fenix’s performance backed it up. He stepped into WWE’s world with the same reckless confidence that made him a standout in AEW. And fans were here for it from the jump. WWE wasted no time, hyping up Fenix’s match right after CM Punk and Paul Heyman opened the show. The crowd was electric.
Facing Nathan Frazer—one-half of the NXT Tag Team Champions—Fenix went full throttle in a match that never slowed down. Frazer came out strong, even scoring a few near-falls, but Fenix had all the answers. The end came after Fenix landed the Goodbye Amigos Kick, followed by a Firedriver and a brutal knee to the head in the corner, then sealed it with a Mexican Muscle Buster for the three-count.
Post-match, Byron Saxton entered the ring for a quick interview. Fenix told the crowd, “Tonight, I’ve been rewarded with love and passion. I waited my whole life for this moment—and now I can say, I am WWE.”
Backstage, the reaction wasn’t all celebration. Legado del Fantasma watched the match closely. Santos Escobar called the performance “exactly what I expect from them,” but Humberto Carrillo wasn’t sold, calling Fenix a “flying lizard” and a “flash in the pan.” Escobar challenged Carrillo to prove his words in the ring and said he was heading straight to Nick Aldis to make something happen.
Now with the match in the books and Triple H putting the stamp on it, Rey Fenix’s WWE journey feels less like a debut—and more like the launch of something serious.
